Mianwali ASO seizes smuggled items worth Rs 4.2m

FAISALABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Mianwali has seized smuggled items worth Rs 4.2 million during a raid involving customs duty and taxes worth Rs 663,021.

Sources told Customs Today that Additional Collector Muhammad Saeed Asad received information regarding smuggling attempts.

He formed an ASO team comprising Superintendent Chaudhary Sardar Muhammad, Muhammad Mansha and Azhar Hussain Jafari (inspectors), Riasat Hussain (driver), Muhammad Ashraf, Faiz Ahmad, Sher Ahmad and Muhammad Yousaf (sepoys).

The team intercepted a Nissan trailer bearing registration no. JV-8857 near Toll Plaza MM Alam Road Mianwali. The ASO team asked the suspect, who were identified as Muhammad Arshad son of Ahmad Din, to produce legal documents regarding the possession of goods. But he failed to produce any legal documents in this regard.

After his failure, the ASO team seized the goods and forwarded the case to customs adjudication for further proceedings. Collector Zulfiqar Chaudhary has appreciated the performance of the ASO teams which foiled various smuggled bids in the region.
