Trade still suspended at Torkham border as Pak-Afghan talks end in fiasco

KHYBER AGENCY: A third session of dialogue held on Wednesday between the Pak-Afghan officials pertaining to the border sharing and transit trade ended at Torkham without any result.

The official sources said that Frontier Corp (FC) sector commander Brig Paracha accompanied by Lieutenant Col Taufeeq and Assistant Political Agent, Landi Kotal Rahim Mehsud represented Pakistan while border police commander Zabihullah Shinwari joined dialog from Afghanistan side.

According to the official sources, the Pakistani officials reiterated their stance and said to their counterpart that until the issue of fixing of fence is resolved, the border would remain closed. However, the Afghan officials requested for immediate opening of the border and assured that the dispute would be settled after consultation with their high-ups in Kabul. However, the Pakistani officials rejected the request and the meeting remained fruitless. The trade activities are still suspended at Torkham border.
