IHC directs LTU to decide case of Wateen Telecom in 60 days

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed the Large Taxpayers’ Unit (LTU) to decide a petition of the Wateen Telecom Limited pertaining to the recovery notice of Rs 497.5 million within 60 days.

A single bench of the IHC comprising Justice Aamer Farooq heard the case and also restricted the LTU from recovering the said amount from the appellant’s accounts.

The bench directed the LTU to decide the appellant’s case within 60 days and submit a report before the bench.  The appellant had challenged a recovery order of Large Taxpayers’ Unit issued in 2016. LTU had issued the order stating the recoverable outstanding tax of Rs 497.5 million for the tax year 2010. The order was issued under provisions of Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.

Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), LTU’s chief commissioner, commissioner Inland Revenue, commissioner Inland Revenue (Appeals), and assistant commissioner Inland Revenue were made party in the case.
