Customs recovers used iron pipes, girders during raid

FAISALABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation confiscated iron pipes and girders with the assistance of Anti-Smuggling Organization worth Rs 8,000,000 involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 6,067,403.

According to the details, Deputy Director Naveedur  Rehman received information about smuggling attempts. He formed a customs team which intercepted a trailer bearing registration no. TLR- 555  near Toba By Pass district Toba Tek Singh and recovered miscellaneous old and used iron pipes.

The team asked the driver namely Abdul Rasheed to produce documents regarding the legal import of the items. He showing receipt No. 068 issued by Sitara Al- Usman Goods Forwarding Agency Quetta which is consignor and consignee mentioned as Haji Ibrahim of Misri Shah Lahore. Customs team confiscated goods under section 18, 32, 79,  of the Customs Act, 1969 and a served notice on the suspect.

After considerable passage of time, no one appeared before the seizing agency to claim the ownership of seized goods, as well as no proof of its legal import and lawful possession was produced. Later, the Customs intelligence submitted the seizure report to the Adjudication department.
