Customs Intelligence asked to auction goods/vehicles confiscated in Sukkur

KARACHI: The Directorate General of Internal Audit has directed the Customs Intelligence and Investigation to immediately auction the vehicles/goods impounded during fiscal year 2014-15 and recover Rs 48.437 million through auction of the said vehicles.

According to sources, the Internal Audit scrutinised the record maintained by the Sukkur Range Office and found that a number of vehicles/goods, which were impounded following the Orders-in-Original (ONOs), were lying there and have not been auctioned so far.

The sources said that around Rs 48.437 million, national revenue, was stuck up due to not holding the auction of the confiscated items.

“The directorate has been asked to justify this omission or accelerate the process of auction so that huge amount of government revenue amounting to Rs 48,473876 may be realized,” the sources added. Further progress must be intimated to the Customs Internal Audit, Karachi within one month, it was also directed.

Sources said Section 169 of the Customs Act, 2001 read with Para 32 of the CGO 12/2002 stipulates that the goods seized in customs cases will be delivered to the care of any customs officer authorised to receive the same.
