ANF recovers narcotics worth Rs2.5b in 15 countrywide operations

ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), in 15 operations launched in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Lahore, Multan, Gujrat, Kohat, Peshawar, Karachi and Chaghi, seized 2.2 tons of narcotics worth Rs 2.5 billion. The seized drugs included 1.443 ton morphine, 755 kilograms of hashish, 10 kilograms of heroin and 21 kilograms of opium. The ANF also arrested 18 drug smugglers, including two women, while impounded five vehicles during the operations.

According to details, ANF Quetta in a successful intelligence led operation at district Chaghi, seized 1.443 ton morphine. Drug consignment was concealed at an unpopulated site located at Killi Zaran, tehsil Dalbandin, district Chaghi. As per initial reports, the drug consignment was to be handed over to another narcotics gang for shifting to some unidentified destination. ANF Rawalpindi on pursuance of information intercepted a Nissan truck near Railway crossing,  Kohat Road, Jand,  Attock.  Search of the truck led to seizure of 500 kilograms of hashish concealed in secret cavities of the truck.

Two occupants of the truck were arrested on the spot. As per initial investigation, drug was being transported to Rawalpindi. In another operation, ANF Rawalpindi arrested two local drug peddlers at GT Road Attock, recovering 1.2 kilograms of heroin from their personal.  In third operation, ANF Rawalpindi recovered 700 gram heroin from possession of a local drug supplier who was arrested near Shell Petrol Pump, Pirwadhai Bus Stand, Rawalpindi.

In fourth operation, ANF Rawalpindi recovered 5 kilograms of hashish from the possession of a drug supplier who was arrested at bus stop, Attock. In fifth operation, ANF Rawalpindi arrested three drug carriers at Tarki Toll Plaza, GT Road, Jhelum, while they were travelling in a passenger van, recovering 4 kilograms of hashish from their possession.

ANF Lahore arrested a drug supplier identified as Irfan Ali resident Lahore, recovering 6 kilogram heroin from his possession. He was arrested near Bhatti Chowk, Ravi Road, Lahore. In another operation, ANF Lahore while acting upon a tip-off, intercepted a Toyota Corolla car near Thokar Niaz Baig Motorway Interchange and recovered 18 kilograms of opium concealed in it. Two persons on board identified as Mukhtar Ahmed and Muhammad Nawaz, both residents of Peshawar were also arrested during the operation.

Yet in another operation, ANF Lahore raided near Madina Chowk, Gujrat and arrested a drug supplier named Qasim Abbas resident of Lahore, recovering 9.6 kilograms hashish concealed in his luggage. In fourth operation, ANF Lahore arrested a lady drug supplier accused namely Sughra resident of Sheikhupura near Bhatti Chowk, Ravi Road, Lahore and recovered 3 kilograms opium from her possession.

In fifth operation, ANF Lahore arrested a Pakistani national named Muhammad Ikram resident of Khushab at Multan International Airport, while he was boarding for Madina by Shaheen Airlines Flight No. NL-701 and recovered 1.9 Kg Heroin concealed in his trolley bag.

ANF Peshawar intercepted a Toyota Corolla near New Toll Plaza Indus Highway, Kohat and recovered 1.2 kilograms of hashish from possession of an accused on board namely Muhammad Ayaz resident at Peshawar. In another operation, ANF Peshawar stopped a suspected Suzuki pick-up near Missile Chowk, Abottabad city, and recovered 4 kilograms of hashish during search of the vehicle, also arresting 2 persons indentified as Imdad Ilahi and Khalil-ur-Rehman. Yet in another operation, ANF Peshawar while searching a passenger van near main Motorway Toll Plaza, Peshawar, arrested a lady drug carrier namely Razia resident Peshawar along with recovery of 3 kilograms of hashish, which was found in her from personal possession.

ANF Karachi intercepted a passenger Bus at Taj Complex, Saddar, Karachi and recovered 229.2 kilograms of hashish concealed inside improvised cavities of the bus. Driver of the bus named Nazeer Khan resident of Kohat was arrested on the spot. All cases have been registered at ANF police stations and further investigations are under progress.
