Customs foils attempt to smuggle precious antiques

ISLAMABAD: The Customs staff deputed at Benazir Bhutto International Airport recovered precious antiques from flight TG-349 which arrived from Bangkok. The market value of the seized antiques is in billions of rupees.

Collector Customs Dr. Arsalan Subuctageen while talking to Customs Today said that customs staff seized 21 precious antiques among 11 were replica. He hailed the performance of the customs staff in foiling smuggling attempts. He said that the customs staff changed their checking strategy and now it is getting fruitful results. He said that the department is optimistic that it will curb smuggling from airports after adopting this strategy.

Sources said that customs authorities received credible information that an attempt is being made to smuggle some precious antiques from Bangkok to Pakistan through Thai Airways flight No. TG 349, after which customs staff enhance their surveillance as the flight landed at airport the owners of antiques after noticing extra ordinary security measures left the antiques and fled away.

It is necessary to mention here that department of archeology also confirmed the value of precious antinques. Customs authorities are optimistic that they will trace the main accused behind this smuggling attempt soon.
