IHC grants stay in cases filed by M/s Wateen Telecom, others

ISLAMABAD: Two single benches of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday granted stay order in cases filed by M/s Wateen Telecom and Pakistan Telecom Mobile Limited (PTML).

A single bench of the IHC comprising Justice Noor Ul Haq N Qureshi heard the case filed by M/s Wateen Telecom Limited in which it had challenged a notice regarding recovery of outstanding taxes issued by the Large Taxpayers Unit’s Commissioner Inland Revenue. After hearing the arguments, the court granted a stay of 20 days to M/s Wateen Telecom Limited.

Another single bench of the IHC, comprising of Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, granted 60 days stay in sales tax matters filed by Pakistan Telecom Limited. The appellant had filed two references challenging notices issued by the Large Taxpayer Unit.

Meanwhile, a division bench of the IHC comprising of Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani heard tax matters of Pakistan Television Corporation Limited, M/s Orient Power Company (Private) Limited, M/s Saba Power Company (Private) Limited and M/s Fauji Kabirwala Power Company (Private) Limited. All of these appellants had made ATIR as respondent in the cases besides officers of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

The bench heard arguments in PTV case and granted the time demanded by the ATIR counsel in the case.
