SHC allows release of PVC laminate hollow wall with accessories’ consignment

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed the Customs authorities to release the consignment of “PVC laminate hollow wall with accessories” by the way of pay order or bank guarantee.

While the hearing a petition filed by Grace Field, a division bench, headed by Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, also directed the respondents to assess the subject consignment/GD within a reasonable period of time after providing opportunity to the petitioner, strictly in accordance with law.

During the hearing, the counsel for the petitioner requested the court to direct the respondents to allow provisional release of his consignment subject for making payment of the duty and taxes at the rate of $0.90 per kg to the collectorate concerned. Whereas differential amount will be deposited before the nazir of this court by the way of pay order / bank guarantee.

After the arguments, the court directed the respondents to release said consignment and disposed of the petition.

Earlier, the petitioner’s counsel stated that petitioner imported a consignment of “PVC laminate hollow wall with accessories” at the rate of $0.90 per kg but the officials of the customs authorities claimed the rate at $1.00 per kg which is illegal and without any lawful authority.

Citing Revenue Division secretary, Appraisement-West collector as respondents, the petitioner pleaded the SHC to set aside impugned demand notice and order to release the said consignment.
