DOHA: Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani, Chairman of Qatar Chamber, said yesterday that chamber’s efforts being exerted over the past years have focused on the empowerment of the private sector to play a bigger role in line with Qatar’s vision of economic diversification.
Addressing the Chamber’s General Assembly meeting held here yesterday, the Chairman said promoting the private sector and increasing its contribution to the GDP has been the main concern for the Chamber.
For this purpose, Qatar Chamber had multiple meetings with trade delegations and exerted great efforts in the organisation and coordination of these meetings which added a great value for the business community in Qatar.
In 2015, Qatar Chamber hosted more than 70 trade delegation from various countries around the world, he added.
Qatar Chamber organised various exhibitions and successful conferences which reflected their outputs on the business environment in Qatar. The fourth “Made in Qatar” Exhibition, the first Gulf Economic Forum, GCC Businesswomen Forum and “Made in China” Exhibition attracted a large number of companies and visitors, Chairman said.
Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani stressed the global economic crisis associated with a decline in oil prices and coupled with the decline in global growth rates and the instability that has dominated the entire Arab region has cast shadow over the GCC economies.
He highlighted Qatar Chamber’s great efforts in organising conferences, seminars, meetings and various exhibitions in order to support the private sector and meet aspirations of its associates.
