KARACHI: Customs Enforcement-South Chief Collector Zahid Khokhar has directed his staff to improve vigilance and surveillance of borders areas to curb smuggling.
Addressing a meeting at his office, the chief collector said that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) was determined to uproot the menace of smuggling from the country. The meeting was attended by collectors of Customs Preventive, Quetta Customs and Gwadar Customs.
During the meeting, Zahid Khokhar expressed his satisfaction over the performance of the respective collectorates on curbing smuggling of contraband items at the borders. All collectors also briefed the chief collector regarding the steps and efforts being taken by them for limiting the smugglers.
Khokhar also informed the customs officers that the FBR was determined to eliminate the factor of illegal trade and would provide latest equipments to the Pakistan Customs Services (PCS) to strengthen the anti-smuggling drive.
He said that the smuggling through borders has also been decreased during last two years due to effective surveillance of customs, adding that the there was also need to enhance the vigilance further.
During the meeting, the chief collector further stressed coordination among all intelligence agencies regarding the exchanging and sharing of the secret information.
He also highlighted the importance of Inter Agency Task Force (IATF) for uprooting the menace of smuggling from the country.
