Shortage of staff at Multan Excise mess up efforts to meet Rs 120m target

MULTAN: The Excise and Taxation Department Multan is facing shortage of staff in carrying out the official tasks.

Sources told Customs Today said that Secretary Excise and Taxation Punjab Dr Ahmad Bilal has suspended 15 employees, including director and inspectors of the Excise and Taxation Department on charges of corruption. These suspended employees were allegedly involved in fake registration of 701 vehicles on MNA serial. The Multan Excise conducted scrutiny of the record to verify their registration.

The Excise and Taxation Department Multan is facing shortage of workforce in the department due to suspension of these 15 employees on the key posts. Shortage of staff has also affected their revenue collection campaign during the last few months of the on-going fiscal year.

The Excise and Taxation department is also facing shortfall of Rs120 million to meet the revenue collection target so far.

The department has given additional charges to several employees along with their existing charges in order to run the office matters.
