Customs foils bid to smuggle huge quantity of foreign currency

ISLAMABAD: Collectorate of Customs authorities deputed at Benazir Bhutto International Airport thwarted an attempt to smuggle huge quantity of foreign currency abroad.

According to sources of Customs Today, Collector Dr. Arsalan Subuctageen received information that an attempt will be made to smuggle huge quantity of foreign currency. He immediately directed Deputy Collector A Baggage Najma Tehniat to enhance surveilliace of passengers.

During checking of passengers of Airblue flight no. PA-210, customs team intercepted two accused persons who were identified as Israr Ahmad son of Mohammad Amin and Peerzada son of Hazrat Gul and recovered 3,30,000 Saudi riyals, 42,400 dirhams. The currency was attached with clothes. The total value of this currency in Pakistani rupees is Rs10.4million.

Sources said that accused Peerzada admitted his involvement in currency smuggling. Customs team registered a case of smuggling against accused persons and they will present them in Customs Court on Friday (today).
