TAWAU: Police arrested two Indonesian men and seized 1.4 kg of drug, believed to be methamphetamine worth RM110,000, the second largest seizure here this year.
Tawau District Police chief, ACP Fadil Marus said the two men, believed to be drug pushers, aged 38 and 49 years, were arrested near a sawmill in Sungai Sibuku, Brantian, here, at about 6.30 pm, yesterday. “The methamphetamine, weighing 1.4 kg, was found in two red plastic packets purportedly containing ‘China Tea’ in a black sling bag belonging to one of the suspects,” he told a media conference, today. The suspect threw away a blue bag he was holding in his right hand while being inspected and tried to escape but was arrested after a short tussle.
No drug was found in the bag. However, crystals believed to be methamphetamine, were found in a black sling bag after the padlock was opened. “The methamphetamine was found in two red plastic packets with the words ‘China Tea’ written on them. “The packets were found inside a plastic package in the bag, with Nescafe, Maggi Big Kari and Maggi Big Ayam written on it,” he said. The methamphetamine was believed to have been sourced from a neighbouring country for the local market. Urine tests conducted the suspects proved negative and they were remanded seven days from today. The case was investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which provides the mandatory death sentence if found guilty.
