Customs Peshawar, police to establish joint check posts to curb smuggling

PESHAWAR: In order to thwart smuggling of goods and non-custom paid vehicle from FATA to Peshawar and other settled areas, the Customs and police will establish joint check posts on Ring Road, Canal Road and Karkhano Market.

According to recommendation of Peshawar Customs House, each check post will comprised two customs inspectors, eight soldiers, one police sub- inspectors and 25 constables. Containers for the check posts will be provided by the custom collectorate along with two CCTV cameras.

A joint check post will be set up near Kacha Garhi camp where two customs inspectors, eight soldiers, one police sub-inspector and 25 constable will deliver their duties.

Similar kind of check post will be established at canal road to and ring road aimed to keep vigilant watch over smugglers and warehouses in the city. Similar check post and monitoring rooms will also be established at Motorway Toll Plaza and Tarab area of GT Road on Nowshera road. All the check posts will have similar facilities and same number of staff.

Another check posts have been planned near Naguman to stop smuggling through Charassda while one check posts will be established at Rashakai interchange.

In Dera Ismail Khan one check post will be set at Daraban Job road which leading to Balochistan via South Waiziristan agency. Likewise another check post having all facilities will be set up at Der Darya Khan Bridge, where spare parts and smuggled items goes to Punjab.

The customs authorities has also planned to launch crackdown against warehouses of spare parts and smuggled goods aimed to round off the smugglers and avert losses to national kitty. All these check posts personnel will performs their duties in three shifts for 24 houses and they will be equipped with all facilities to trace the smuggled items.
