ISLAMABAD: Model Customs Collectorate Deputy Collector Naghma-e-Tehniat has formed a team of customs officers to check hidden cavities of all aero planes, especially those departing for Saudi Arabia from Benazir Bhutto International Airport in order to foil drugs smuggling.

The deputy collector formed the team on the directions of Islamabad Customs Collector Arslan Subuctageen to enhance vigilance at the Islamabad airport. These measures have been taken following a recent incident of 27kg heroin smuggling, which was busted by the customs officials at Karachi airport, by concealing it in hidden cavities of a plane.

Naghma-e-Tehniat said that all aero planes will be checked thoroughly before departure. The hidden places, including kitchen, windows, wings and doors, which are mostly used for concealing drugs, will be checked properly.

She said that the customs staff did not have access to all areas of the airport around the clock due to not having the passes issued by the authority. The limited access was creating hurdles for the customs staff at the airport.

The Islamabad Customs collector has provided tow double cabin vehicles to the staff deputed at the airport, she informed, adding that access to all areas was most important to foil the drugs smuggling.
