Customs Court orders release of suspects in diesel smuggling case

KARACHI: Custom Court Judge Faiz Rasool Rashdi on Monday directed the superintendent, Central Prison, Karachi to release two suspects namely Khudadad and Amanullah who were involved in smuggling of 45,600 liters diesel oil.

During the hearing, the court was informed that a fine of Rs 200,000 has been paid on behalf of both the accused. Earlier, on June 13, 2016 both accused pleaded guilty on which the court convicted them for imprisonment of the period which they spent from May 20, 2016 to June 13, 2016.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 100,000 on each of the accused. According to the prosecution, accused Khudadad and Amanullah were arrested on 19th May 2016 near customs Moachko Choke Point on the charges of smuggling 45,600 liters diesel oil valuing of Rs3,283,000 . The act of the accused is the violation of section 2( s ), 156( 2 ) of 157( 2), 178 of Custom Act, 1969 and is punishable under section 89 of section 156 ( 1 ) ibid.
