Police seize 274kg of syabu worth RM27 million

KUALA LUMPUR: Police detained eight men including two Iranians in separate raids and seized 274kg of syabu worth RM27 million in Selangor and Perak yesterday.

Federal Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department Commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said the raids were conducted by the Federal Narcotic Investigation Department and Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING) between 4.30am and 6.45am. Mokhtar said the arrests were made following the raids conducted at a remote area in Behrang, Perak and in Ampang, Klang and Ulu Bernam in Selangor.

“In the first raids, police arrested five men including two Iranians who both served as chemists. Three others were local. They were renting a container and had converted it into a drug lab. “Police found 35kg of syabu crystal and 239kg of liquid worth RM27 million,” he told a press conference at the Federal police headquarters here today. Mokhtar said in the second raid in Selangor, police arrested three men, all of whom tested positive for drugs.

“The drugs were meant for local and Western markets. It could supply 1.4 million drug addicts. “Police also seized three cars, a motorcycle and cash worth RM42,300,” he said adding that the case was being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. As of January and June 14 this year, a total of RM127 million worth of drugs have been seized by police’s Narcotics Investigation Department. In addition, 94,927 people were arrested for various drug offences in the same period this year.
