LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has rejected a petition which was filed against sales tax on petroleum goods for early hearing.

During proceedings of the case, the counsel for the petitioner, Mian Mehmoodur Rashid, who is also leader of opposition in Punjab Assembly, argued that the government imposed sales tax on petroleum goods to cover its budget deficit. He said that now the government announced budget for 2016-17 but the sales tax on petroleum goods are still being received from the consumers which is clearly violation of constitution clause 3, 9, and 14.
