HONG KONG: Hong Kong Customs yesterday seized 1.04 kilogrammes of suspected cannabis at Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point and arrested a 49-year-old man. 40 tablets of suspected diazepam were further seized during premises search.
Last night, Customs officers intercepted an incoming passenger at Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point and found cannabis concealed inside some tea leaf packets from a handbag carried by the arrested person.Later on, Customs officers escorted the arrested man for premises search in To Kwa Wan.Small amount of suspected cannabis, two inhaling apparatus for smoking cannabis and 40 tablets of suspected diazepam were further seized.The market value of the drug seized was about $153,000 in total.
The arrested person, claimed as a businessman, was charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug, two counts of possession of a dangerous drug and one count of possession of equipment fit and intended for the smoking of a dangerous drug.He will appear at Fanling Magistrates’ Courts on Monday (June 20).
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
