Faisalabad Customs Intelligence seizes 5,960kg black tea worth Rs 2m

FAISALABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation has seized 5,960 kilogram illegally imported Indian black tea packed in plain gunny bags worth Rs 2 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 1.27 million.

Following a tip-off, a customs team comprising Deputy Director  Riaz Hussain, Superintendent Maher Muhammad Rafiq, Senior Intelligence Officer Zahid Saleem Mirza, and Mansoor Nasir, Sepoy Khalil Ahmad visited the premises of M/s Pak Justice Goods Forwarding Agency located at Sabzi Mandi Road, Faisalabad and recovered 85 bags of Indian origin black tea.

The officials asked the person concerned of transport agency named Khurram Shazad son of Abdul Aziz and owner, Haji Abdul Hameed, to show documents regarding the legal import of tea but he failed to do the same.

The official confiscated the tea under Section 2(s), 16, 178 of the Customs Act, 1969 read with section 3(1)3 of the Import and Export Control Act, 1950, punishable under Section 156 (1)89 of the Customs Act. Seizure report submitted to the adjudication for further action.
