Customs Court adjourns hearing of bail plea filed by alleged tax evader

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling on Thursday heard a post-arrest bail plea filed by Manzoor Ahmad who is allegedly involved in tax evasion of Rs 80 million and adjourned the same for new date.

As per details, Manzoor Ahmad has been charged for filing fake tax returns and other statements to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). The accused owned a textile factory located on Raiwind Road, Lahore. The accused has allegedly evaded Rs 80 million under the head of sales tax from 2013 to 2014.

On intelligence information, the Inland Revenue (IR) team raided the factory and arrested the owner. A case was registered against him under Pakistan Sales Tax Act.

Later, he was produced before the court of Chaudhary Ameer Muhammad Khan seeking his physical remand, which was granted. After completion of physical remand, the court sent him on judicial remand.
