Gujranwala Customs Intelligence registers 113 cases involving Rs26.17m in 11 months

SIALKOT: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department Gujranwala Division registered 113 smuggling cases and confiscated smuggled items worth of Rs 26.17 million during first eleven months of the current fiscal year.

Official Sources told Customs Today that Assistant Director Customs Intelligence Ms Zaineb Mehmood formed various teams to curb smuggling under the Anti smuggling campaign which was launched by Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). The teams intercepted various vehicles during checking on GT road and other roads and recovered smuggled items after searching of vehicles. From the seized items included non-duty paid vehicles, Iranian Nylon rope, Scrap, Cloth, Black Tea, Iranian Bananas and others miscellaneous smuggled items.

The nabbed accused persons failed to provide any legal documents regarding possession of items. After confiscating the items the customs intelligence has forwarded the cases to customs adjudication for further proceedings.

Customs Intelligence of Gujranwala region has continued its campaign against smuggling with departmental limited sources and shortage of staff. Sources told that it is big achievement of officers and officials of department that they are achieving target and trying to curb smuggling for the betterment of country. Officials said that need of permanent Assistant Director appointment is very appropriate at Gujranwala office because the present Assistant Director also perform his duty at Lahore but she visit once or twice in a week on her own desire.
