ISLAMABAD: The Model Customs Collectorate’s car cell has impounded a non-duty paid BMW vehicle worth Rs 6 million from Islamabad regions during an action.
In pursuance of information, the squad of car cell led by Superintendent Zargam Dil intercepted BMW car model 2007 with fake number plates in F-11 Markaz Islamabad.
On the spot, driver produced the copies of documents showing clearance of the car from Lahore Customs House during amnesty scheme, 2011, but no any entry was found in the computerised data by the officials.
Therefore, the vehicle was impounded under Section 17 of the Customs Act, 1969; for further investigation of its legal imports/payment of duty/taxes and laboratory test.
Customs Preventive Deputy Collector Shahid Jan and other officers lauded the performance of the officials and also gave highly appreciated remarks on impounding the non-duty paid of BMW car.
Shahid said that anti-smuggling teams were working round the clock against the smuggled items and vehicles in the regions with fully support of Islamabad Customs Collector Dr Arslan Subuctageen.
The deputy collector said that elimination of smuggling could help reduce dependence on debts, adding that the collectorate was trying its level best to overcome the smuggling trends.
Shahid Jan said that FIR has been lodged under the custom rules against the accused person in non-duty paid BMW car case and further investigations are under process.
