ISLAMABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) has seized BOPP films, shampoo and skimmed milk worth Rs 349,364 during an action on GT Road.
According to the details, an anti-smuggling team was on its routine patrolling at Rawalpindi-Peshawar GT Road near Rawat when the squad stopped an unidentified vehicle.
The officials checked vehicle and recovered 156 kilogram of BOPP file worth Rs 43,571, foreign origin shampoos of assorted brands worth Rs 106,294 and 1000kg skimmed milk worth Rs 199,500.
The anti smuggling squad asked the driver to provide documents regarding legal import of the items loaded on the vehicle. The driver could not provided the relevant documents to the customs staff, therefore, the officials confiscated the item under the Customs Act, 1969. FIR has been lodged against the accused and further investigation is underway. This successful seizure was made under the supervision of Customs Preventive Deputy Superintend Rana Shakeel.
Deputy Collector Shahid Jan said that Islamabad Customs Collector Dr Arslan Subuctageen appreciated the performance of the ASO team and directed them to continue the operations against the smuggling.
The deputy collector said that anti smuggling activity will be continued during new financial year 2016-17 with more effective efforts, adding that anti-smuggling campaign contributed handsome revenue in financial year 2015-16.
