Quetta Customs Intelligence seizes items worth Rs 220m in 20 days

KARACHI: Busting various smuggling attempts, the Customs Intelligence and Investigation seized contraband items worth Rs 220 million and arrested 20 suspects in Quetta till July 20, 2016.

The Customs Intelligence confiscated 100,000 litres of Iranian diesel, 30,000 litres of Iranian petrol, 2000 kilogram of charas, 2kg heroin, electronics, android cell phones, precious watches, cameras, fertilizer, tyres, Iranian drinks, Indian gutka, liquor bottles and non-duty paid luxury vehicles and jeeps during the said period.

The officials also impounded buses, truck and other vehicles, which were being used for the transportation of smuggled items.

Meanwhile, the Customs Intelligence in a recent operation seized German origin air conditioners. Following credible information that smuggled air conditioners will be supplied outside the city, the intelligence staff held check posts at entry and exit points of the city.

The official intercepted a truck and recovered more than 50 air conditioners, which were confiscated after the driver failed to produce documents regarding the legal import of the items. The value of air conditioners have been estimated at Rs 3 million.

The officials arrested three accused persons in raid and impounded the truck under customs laws.
