The association went to Sri Lanka the following year and distributed the money to help the victims, its lawyer and member A. Arumugam said.

The issue became controversial after S. Ananthi, the Northern Provincial council member for Jaffna district, demanded to know how the funds were handled.

Following her call for transparency regarding the funds, many Tamil groups in Malaysia have also demanded answers.

Meanwhile, Arumugam and other Peravai members have vowed to submit their report to the government and not to the critics.Air freight inspectors at the Chennai International Airport in Tamil Nadu, India, were shocked to discover a foot-long python inside a package, Tamil dailies reported.

Staff handling a package from Taiwan became suspicious of a box marked as containing used household utensils.

Upon checking, they were surprised to discover a live python nestled in the package containing a gas stove, blender and a DVD player.

Authorities who visited the delivery address found that it was fake.

The Customs Department is investigating the matter, including trying to ascertain the sender’s address which was written in Chinese.
