Gujranwala FIA launches crackdown on human traffickers

SIALKOT: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has tightened its noose around notorious human traffickers-turned-proclaimed offenders (POs), their agents and sub-agents, as special FIA teams have arrested as many as 152 human traffickers as well as electricity and gas pilferers.

The FIA arrested the accused during a massive crackdown against human traffickers the last month in Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad and Gujranwala, Rawalpindi and Sheikhpura districts and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

FIA Deputy Director Khalid Anees told Customs Today that the accused had been sending innocent people abroad, especially to America, England, Spain, Belgium, Greece, Russia, European, African and Middle East countries on fake documents.

He said that the arrested accused electricity and gas pilferers had stolen the electricity and gas worth millions of rupees.

FIA deputy director revealed that the FIA has also recovered the grabbed money amounting to Rs 9.2 million from these accused.

He said that the FIA has sent the accused behind the bars after registering separate cases against them. Further investigations were underway.
