PCA directs Mahboob Lights to pay evaded tax, fine

KARACHI: The Directorate of Post Clearance Audit (PCA) has issued a notice to a Karachi-based company, Mahboob Lights directing it to pay evaded duty/taxes amounting to Rs 600,000 along with fine within 14 days.

As per details, the company imported four consignments comprising LED lights during November and December 2015, allegedly evading duty/taxes by taking undue benefits of the SRO.

While scrutinsing data of the company, the PCA detected that it mentioned wronh PCT heading for clearance of the items in order to take zero-rating sales tax facility under SRO 549.

The PCA after detecting discrepancies in import data of the company made a contravention report and sent to the Customs Adjudication for further legal action.

The adjudication authority decided the case in favour of the department and ordered the company to pay evaded taxes of Rs 600,000 along with imposed fine within 14 days.
