KARACHI: The Model Customs Collectorate, Quetta busted two smuggling attempts by seizing foreign origin non-duty paid washing machines and fertilisers, besides arresting four accused persons.
As per details, Quetta Customs Deputy Collector Jahanzaib Abbasi received credible information that a huge quantity of foreign origin smuggled washing machines will be supplied out of the city. The deputy collector formed a team comprising Inspector Muslim Khan, Mumtaz Jokhio, Malik Qayyum and others to foil the smuggling attempt.
Following directions, the customs staff started checking vehicles at exit points of the city where a truck was intercepted for checking that led to the recovery of more than 150 washing machines.
On demand, the driver and his assistance could not produce documents regarding legal import of the items; therefore, the officials confiscated the machines worth Rs 2.3 million.
In another action, the anti-smuggling squad confiscated 300 sacks of fertilisers which were being smuggled out of the city.
The customs team comprising Inspectors Bashir Khan, Tanawal Hussain and others intercepted a truck for checking that led to the recovery of 300 sacks of fertilisers. The officials seized the goods after driver failed to show documents regarding legal import of the items, and arrested two suspects during the raid.
