SIALKOT: Customs Collectorate Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Zone-II confiscated non-duty paid cigarettes and Rani juice worth Rs 150,000 from a van on GT Road near River Chenab.
Sources told Customs Today that Collector Customs Ahmed Reza Khan received information that a van is coming to Gujranwala from Rawalpindi loaded with non duty paid cigarettes and Rani juice. The collector instructed Deputy Director Waheed Anwar Abro to take necessary action against the van and foil this attempt of smuggling.

The deputy collector directed Superintendent Sohail Butt to constitute a team to check vehicles. The ASO team under the supervision of Inspector Arshad Hussain Mayo and Iftikhar started checking of vehicles on GT road. The team intercepted a Toyota van bearing registration number RIA-1493-05 and during search the team recovered bundles of non duty paid cigarettes which includes Pine, Dunhil, More, Indian origin cigarettes (Beri) and Rani juice worth Rs15,0000.
The team asked driver about booking of said smuggled items but the driver of the vehicle failed to satisfy ASO team. He replied that these items were booked from General Bus Stand Peer Wadhai Rawalpindi.
The team confiscated all items and registered a case against bus stand manager as per Customs Laws and Customs Act 1969. The team shifted all items in the store of Customs Collectorate Sialkot. The team released driver Sakhi Muhammad with van after proper interrogations.
Collector Customs Ahmed Reza Khan hailed the performance of ASO staff and hoped that ASO staff will continue to perform with same zeal and spirit in future.
