Customs foils 5 bids to smuggle heroin via Chaklala Mail Office: DC Sadia Usman

ISLAMABAD: Customs staff deputed at International Mail office (IMO) Chaklala Rawalpindi seized a huge quantity of heroin during the last five months under supervision of Deputy Collector Sadia Usman.

Deputy Collector IMO Sadia Usman told Customs Today that she joined the IMO from March 2016 and during this period the IMO seized five big cases of heroin smuggling at International Mail Office Chaklala and arrested the smugglers.

She said that on special instructions of FBR, IMO staff is working with full confidence and devotion to curb smuggling through parcels and registries.

She said that the first heroin case was booked on 12-03-2016 at about 11:30 am during clearance of export parcels at International Mail office, Chaklala Rawalpindi a parcel bearing No. CB000025955PK booked by Muhammad Maskeen son of Allah Din for Imran Khan, 5-Church Fold, Wadsley Bridge, Sheffield S-6 1TZ, UK was found suspicious. The parcel comprised of cooking utensils. The detailed examination of the parcel led to recovery of 1.750 kg of heroin powder tactfully concealed in the bottom of aluminum cooking pots .

She said that the second case was detection of Heroin was held on 08-04-2016, at 10:30 am during clearance of export parcels at International Mail Office, Chaklala Rawalpindi a parcel bearing No. RA000097700PK booked by Gulzaib, Mohallah Tariqabad Akora Khattak for Kenn Brown, 2100 N Sherman Circle Apt 104 Miramar Flo 33025J, USA, was found suspicious. The parcel comprised of general knowledge book. Detailed examination of the parcel led to the recovery of 205 grams of heroin powder tactfully concealed in the binding of the book.

She said that the third case of heroin was held On 02-05-2016, at 10:30 am during clearance of export registry parcels at International Mail Office, Chaklala Rawalpindi a parcel bearing No. RB005780815PK booked by Raja Waqas Ali for Z. Rafique, 53 Huxley Avenue M8 Olx Cheetham hill, Manchester, UK, was found suspicious. The parcel comprised of 03 books and a ladies suit. Detailed examination of the parcel led to the recovery of 350 grams (net weight) of heroin powder tactfully concealed in the binding of the books.

Sadia Usman said that Customs staff detect fourth case of heroin on 23-06-2016, at 12:00 pm during clearance of export parcels at International Mail Office, Chaklala Rawalpindi a parcel bearing No. CB031717431PK booked by Tahir Ali, Ashrat Road, Hassan Abdal for Via BT Pay Phones 132, Hey Barnes Rd Small Heat H, Birmingham B-10, 9JF, UK, was found suspicious. The parcel comprised of 03 ladies purses. Detailed examination of the parcel led to the recovery of 250 grams of heroin powder tactfully concealed in the foam lining of purses.

Deputy Collector said that 5th case of heroin was intercepted on 04-08-2016, at about 12:00 pm during clearance of export registry parcels at International Mail Office, Chaklala Garrison, Rawalpindi a parcel bearing No. RA000097905PK booked by Jalal Ahmad S/O Raza Ahmad for Shahmir Ansam, 8610 North Sherman Circle Apt # 105, Zip 33025, Miramar, FLO USA was found suspicious. The Parcel comprised of 01 book. Detailed examination of the parcel led to the recovery of 210 grams (net weight) of heroin powder tactfully concealed inside the cavities made in the hard binding of the book.
