SIALKOT: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) Zone-II has confiscated a huge quantity of smuggled olive oil and cigarettes recovered from a van during an action.
Reportedly, Sialkot Customs Collector Ahmed Reza Khan received information that a van loaded with smuggled olive oil and banned cigarettes is coming from Rawalpindi and is going to Lahore. The collector ordered Deputy Collector Waheed Anwar Abro to take stern action and check all vehicles.
The deputy collector formed a team comprising Superintendent Muhammad Khan, Inspectors Arshad Hussain Mayo and Muhammad Iftikhar. The team members started checking of vehicles on GT Road when it intercepted a van and recovered olive oil and banned cigarettes.
The team asked driver Nazir about booking and import documents of recovered items but the driver failed to produce the same. Therefore, the customs officials confiscated the said items and shifted to the store of Sialkot Customs.
The team released the driver along with van after proper interrogation while team has registered a case against the manager of van stand as per customs law. However, the case will be referred to the Customs Adjudication for further legal proceedings.
Collector Ahmed Reza has hailed the performance of team whereas the collector said that anti-smuggling activities will be continued in region to prevent the smuggling. Deputy Collector Waheed Anwar Abro also appreciated the performance of ASO team.
