ADC Beelam orders to confiscate smuggled cigarettes

FAISALABAD: Customs Adjudication Additional Collector Beelam-Ur-Ramzan has issued ONO in favour of the Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO), Faisalabad and ordered to confiscate recovered cigarettes under Section 156(1) 89 (i) of the Customs Act, 1969.

As per details, Faisalabad ASO superintendent intercepted a loader rickshaw bearing Registration No FDK-784 and recovered cigarettes being transported from M/s Atif Goods Forwarding Agency to city area. The customs team recovered foreign origin cigarettes, including Dunhill, Tara Filter khaini J.K flavored tobacco, ORIS cigarettes, etc.

Furthermore, the ASO team asked the driver, who was identified as Khurram Altaf son of Asghar Ali to produce documents regarding legal possession of the items but he could produce only few receipts issued by Atif Goods Forwarding Agency and failed to provide any relevant documents. The ASO team seized the cigarettes according to customs law and forward the case to Customs Adjudication.

Inspector Muhammad Safdar Ali appeared from the petitioner’s side and asserted that the seized different brand cigarettes fell under the ambit of Section 2(s) of the Custom Act 1969. While no one appeared from the respondent’s side and had nothing to defend against the allegation.

Therefore, the additional collector ordered to seize the cigarettes under Section 156 (1) 89 (i) of the Customs Act, 1969.
