Gwadar Customs confiscates diesel, juicer machines and truck worth Rs 8m

KARACHI: The Model Customs Collectorate, Gwadar, has confiscated smuggled Iranian diesel and juicer machines and an oil tanker worth Rs 8.6 million, besides arresting six accused persons during two different raids.

The anti-smuggling staff received information through Gwadar Customs Collector Saeed Akram regarding the smuggling of diesel, which were brought into the city from Iran illegally causing loss to national exchequer.

Under the supervision of deputy collector, a team comprising Inspectors Aslam Khan, Sarfraz Ali, Noshad Khan and others established checkpoint at exit points of Jambi, an area of Gwadar for checking of vehicles.

During checking, the officials signalled to stop a truck for checking and recovered 32,000 liters of Iranian diesel. The recovered diesel and truck worth Rs 8.2 million were confiscated after finding it smuggled item.

During another action, a team of customs confiscated foreign origin non-duty paid juicer machines. The team intercepted a mini truck near Soro an area of Gwadar for checking that led to the recovery of more than 150 juicer machines.

The customs staff asked the driver and his assistants to show documents regarding legal import of the items but they could not produce the same. However, the recovered juicer machines were confiscated under the customs laws. The value of items has been estimated at Rs 400,000. During the raid, three suspects were arrested.
