Customs anti-smuggling squad seizes non-duty paid goods, dry batteries

ISLAMABAD: Customs Colletorate Islamabad has seized a huge quantity of foreign origin goods and dry batteries worth million of rupees.

Deputy Collector Preventive Shahid Jan told Customs Today that the customs anti-smuggling squad is using all means to curb smuggling in the region.

He said that a customs team intercepted a passenger bus on GT road which was coming from Peshawar. He said that during thorough checking of the bus, the customs team found a huge quantity of foreign origin batteries and other smuggled goods such as bicycles, stabilizers.

The customs team comprising Superintendent Nasir Barlas and Deputy Superintendent Rana asked the driver of the bus to produce legal documents regarding possession and transportation of these goods. The driver of the bus failed to provide any relevant documents. Upon their failure customs team seized the goods and registered a case of smuggling against accused persons.

Deputy Collector Shahid Jan said that customs department is using all resources to decease smuggling and after adopting comprehensive strategy against smugglers there are marginable decrease in smuggling attempts.
