KARACHI: The Quetta Customs has foiled a bid to smuggle electronics and narcotics during two successful raids, which also led to the arrest of four persons.
Deputy Collector Jehanzaib Abbasi received information that some elements were planning to smuggle electronic items out of Quetta city. On this, he formed a team – consisting of Inspectors Muneer Abbasi, Israr Ali and others – to foil the smuggling attempt.
The team set up checkpoints at the main entry and exit points of the city and started checking vehicles. During the checking of vehicles, the anti-smuggling squad intercepted a suspicious truck and recovered 100 electric stoves, 30 LEDs, 30 laptops and other items. The customs officials seized the smuggled items and arrested two persons. Officials said that the estimated value of the seized goods was more than Rs 4 million.
In a separate raid, the Quetta Customs seized a huge quantity of narcotics. On the specials instructions of the deputy collector, a team was formed that set up check-posts in the city. During the checking of vehicles, the team intercepted a passenger bus, from which the team seized 3kg opium and 120kg charas. The customs officials also arrested two persons for carrying the illegal drugs. The officials said that the value of seized narcotics is more than Rs 10 million.
