Gujranwala Customs seizes 400 Iran-made smuggled tyres

SIALKOT: A team of Gujranwala Customs Intelligence and Investigation confiscated 400 Iranian origin smuggled tyres near Kamoke Toll Plaza on Wednesday.

Sources told Customs Today that Deputy Director Intelligence and Investigation Zainab Mehmood received information about some smuggling attempts.

She immediately formed a team comprising Superintendent Muhammad Rauf Farooqi, Inspector Syed Maratab Ali Shah and constables Asad Raza, Mubashir and Boota. The team established a check point on GT Road and started checking vehicles. The team intercepted a Mazda truck bearing registration number LEI-847 and recovered 400 Iranian made smuggled tyres.

The team asked the driver, identified as Muhammad Safdar, about documents but he failed to show any proof to the officials. The driver told the customs team that the tyres were loaded from Shah Alami Market Lahore and he was unaware of their status.

The team released the driver after proper interrogation and confiscated the tyres and truck. A member of the team told Customs Today that a notice will be sent to the truck and tyres owner. If they will provide any documents regarding legal import and transportation of these tyres then the customs team will release the seized goods otherwise they will forward the case to the Customs Adjudication for further proceedings.
