Hyderabad Customs seizes cigarettes, gutka worth Rs 300m

HYDERABAD: The customs officials confiscated a huge cache of smuggled cigarettes, pan parag (flavoured betel nuts) and other items worth around Rs 300 million during an action near Tower Marker, Hyderabad.

During press conference, Hyderabad Customs Additional Collector Rehmatullah Wistro revealed that the customs officials received credible information regarding smuggling of foreign origin cigarettes and other items.

Following the directions of Collector Agha Shahid Majeed, the customs officials sought assistance of Rangers to carry out operation against the smugglers in the area of Tower Market where a customs official recently embraced martyrdom during an action.

The officials raided a godown in the area and found a truck loaded with cigarettes, pan parag and other items, besides arresting accused persons, the additional collector said, adding that further information will be shared with media after investigation.

He further said that Germany origin cigarettes, Indian pan parag and Afghni items were recovered from the truck that was brought into Pakistan from Afghanistan via Chamman and Quetta.
