FAISALABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) conducted various operations against smugglers on the special instructions of Collector Zulfiqar Ali Chaudhary and seized goods worth Rs 1.86 million during last week of August 2016.
A ASO team under the supervision of Deputy Collector Muhammad Rizwan Khan conducted raids in the region to curb smuggling and registered two cases against suspects.
The ASO team comprising Superintendent Saeed Akhtar Joiya, Inspector Masood Saeed Chohan, Inspector Safdar Ali, Sepoys Muhammad Ashraf, Liaquat Ali, Israr Ahmad and Muhammad Abdullah participated in the raids.
The ASO team seized the items under Section 2(s), read with SRO 566(1),2005, Section 16, 18, 157, 168, and 178 of the Customs Act 1969 and Section 3 of Sales Tax Act, 1990, Section 148 of Income Tax Ordinance 2001 read with Section 3 (1) 3 of Import and Export Control Act, 1950, punishable under Section 156(1) 89 (i) of the Customs Act 1969 read with SRO 499(I)/2009 dated June 13, 2009 after completion of all the legal formalities.
The ASO staff intercepted one vehicle worth Rs 800,000 under Section 157 of the Customs Act, 1969. The vehicle was being used for transportation of smuggled items.
The ASO team confiscated miscellaneous items worth Rs 1.06 million during the said period. The official seized the goods and forwarded the cases to Customs Adjudication for further proceedings.
