Customs launches crackdown against drug traffickers, seizes 1,320kg charas in August

ISLAMABAD: Peshawar Customs Collectorate has launched a crackdown against drug traffickers and seized 1,302 kilograms charas worth Rs 7.825 million during August 2016.

Sources told Customs Today that Customs Colletorate foiled many attempts of smuggling in Peshwar. The Customs staff also seized a huge quantity of opium in different raids during August. The Customs officials said that the value of the seized opium was Rs 350, 000.

Sources said that the Customs Collectorate, Peshawar, is taking measures to curb transport of drugs fro Federally Administered Tribal Areas. Under the new anti-smuggling strategy, Pakistan Customs is getting assistance of Frontier Corps (FC), Frontier Constabulary, and political administration, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) and Motorway.

Sources said that the smuggling is not only resulting in the loss of revenue, but also bearing negative impact on legal import, trade and industries. Coaches, buses and motorcars are used for smuggling in the area.
