FAISALABAD: Customs Adjudication Faisalabad Deputy Collector Asma Hameed has issued Order-in-original (ONO) in favour of Sargodha Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) by declaring the confiscation of a vehicle as lawful.
As per details, Sargodha ASO Superintendent Chaudhary Muhammad Sardar along with his team intercepted a Toyota Hiace van bearing registration No. JF-1549 (Sindh), model 1990 near Qanchi More Sargodha and asked the driver, Muhammad Ijaz, a resident Mohallah Rajay Wala Chiniot, to produce the documents showing the legal import of the vehicle but he remained fail.
Therefore, the officials impounded the vehicle under Section 2(s) read with Section 168 of the Custom Act, 1969 and with Import and Export Act, 1950 punishable under Section 156 (I) 89(i) of Custom Act, 1969. Later, the case was forward to adjudication.
The vehicle was also sent to Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Islamabad for test. The report of FSL after chemical treatment of chassis number of Toyota Hiace van bearing registration Number has revealed that its chassis number sheet has been found cut welded and other iron piece bearing number LH102-0010308 has been fixed on its chassis number place.
It is crystal clear that the vehicle is smuggled one and was brought into country without paying of customs duty and taxes.
However, the accused person Mst Noreen Zahoor daughter of Zahoor Ahmed (owner), appear from the party side. Whereas Inspector Ansar Saleemi represented the prosecution side and asserted that the chassis number of the vehicle has been found cut and welded from the case record. Therefore, Deputy Collector Asma Hameed ordered for outright confiscation of the vehicle in favour of federal government under section 156(1)89(i) of the Customs Act 1969.
