Quetta Customs seizes huge quantity of non-duty paid cigarettes

KARACHI: The Customs Quetta authorities has seized 100 cartons of non-duty paid cigarettes during a crackdown and arrested suspects.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Quetta Jahanzaib Abbasi received information that some persons are planning to smuggle a huge quantity of non-duty paid cigarettes outside Quetta city. He immediately constituted an anti-smuggling squad comprising Inspector Munir Abbasi, Inspector Shakeel Khan and others and started checking of vehicles.

The anti-smuggling squad intercepted a truck and recovered 100 cartons of non-duty paid cigarettes. Sources said that the accused had tactfully placed these cartons behind some other items.

During initial investigations no one showed any legal documents regarding possession and transportation of these non-duty paid cigarettes. Customs team seized the cigarettes and after registering a case of smuggling accused persons started investigations.

It is necessary to mention here that customs authorities already expedited their efforts to curb smuggling in the region.
