KARACHI: Around 200 Lahore Metro buses have reached Karachi and waiting for Customs clearance, which will take a week.
According to Punjab Mass-transit Authority Operations General Manager Syed Uzair Shah, Daewoo Pakistan Express Bus Service imported the buses, which will tart ply the roads of Lahore in a couple of weeks.
Initially, these buses would run on 14 feeder routes of Lahore Metro Bus Service, covering 123 kilometres. Later, more buses would be inducted in phases once Lahore Orange Line Metro Train becomes operational, he added.
According to a Daewoo Pakistan spokesperson, the company is investing Rs3 billion in the procurement of 200 new buses, including 162 large and 38 small buses, and had plans to expand its bus fleet at a later stage. The company would own and operate these buses on the feeder routes of the Lahore Metro Bus service and bill the PMA on per kilometre basis. The authority will pay Rs165 and Rs140 per kilometre for big and small buses, respectively.
