Additional Director Asif’s Customs Intelligence seizes items worth Rs 23.3m

FAISALABAD: Showing exceptional performance under the supervision of Additional Collector Muhammad Asif Abbas, the Customs Intelligence and Investigation seized smuggled goods worth Rs 23.327 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 8.734 million during first two months (July-August) of current fiscal year 2016-17.

The Customs Intelligence team comprising Deputy Director Riaz Hussain, Superintendent Muhammad Saifullah, Senior Intelligence Officers Muhammad Zahid Saleem, Intelligence Officers Muhammad Mansoor Nasir and Muhammad Saleem, Sepoyes Mukhtar Ahmad, Muhammad Iqbal Ghulam Ghous and Musadiq Ahmed conducted various raids against smugglers and made almost 11 cases during the said period.

Officials said that Additional Director Asif Abbas designed an effective strategy to eliminate the menace of smuggling in Faisalabad region. They added that Asif has instructed all officers to work hard and bring the elements involved in the smuggling to the book.

During July, the Customs Intelligence confiscated smuggle goods worth Rs 6.87 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 3.894 million. However, seven cases were registered during the said period against smugglers.

The department confiscated smuggled items worth Rs 16.457 million involving duty and taxes amounting to Rs 4.84 million during August, while four cases were lodged against the accused persons.

The department confiscated smuggled goods including pine nuts, cloth, vehicles and other items. The officials said that intelligence officers seized all items after the owners failed to produce documents regarding legal import of the items.

The officials raided Sheikhpura Road, Motorway, Smundri Road, Jhang Road and Sargodha Road. All cases have been sent to adjudication for further legal action.
