KARACHI: KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has deferred the collection of sales tax on services (STS) from cable operators in the larger interest of the people in Sindh using cable service.
He took this decision during his meeting with Cable Operators Association of Pakistan delegation led by its chairman Khalid Arain. Ghufran Mujtaba, Akhlaq Ahmed, Mahmood Ahmed, Zahir Ali and Lala Lateef were part of the delegation.
The CAP office bearers said that the imposition of sales tax on cable operator would pass the burden on the poor customers watching TV channels through their cables. On this the chief minister issued directive to Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) to hold collection of STS and take the matter to its board meeting for final decision.
The chief minister said that he was trying to make the city of Karachi beautiful. The cables distribution system of CAP is some sort of rough and tough. The bunches of unraveled cables could be seen hanging on poles. He urged them to make systematic. “We would extend you maximum support if you need anything from the government,” he said.
Khalid Arain told the chief minister that they have started making their cable system underground. He assured the chief minister that they would also contribute in making this city beautiful.
