Customs Intelligence foils attempt to smuggle 13 non-duty paid vehicles worth Rs 13m

ISLAMABAD: Directorate General Customs Intelligence and Investigation team impounded 13 non-duty paid vehicles. The market value of the vehicles is Rs 13 million.

Sources told Customs Today that customs authorities received information that some vehicles were being smuggled from Lahore to Swat through motorway.  After receiving the information, the customs authorities enhanced their checking after establishing various checking posts.

The customs team intercepted a trailer near Toll Plaza Islamabad. During search customs team found different kind of auto parts. After through examination of these parts the team observed that accused persons converted a complete vehicle into auto parts for smuggling purpose.

The team asked the driver of the trailer to produce legal documents regarding possession and transportation of these parts, but the driver remained failed to show any relevant documents.

After his failure customs team seized the auto parts and vehicle vide Customs Act 1969 and forward chassis and other parts for laboratory test. After receiving the laboratory report customs authorities will decide to file a case of smuggling.
