Customs Intelligence impounds smuggled vehicles worth Rs 6m

SIALKOT: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Gujranwala, has impounded five non-duty paid vehicles worth Rs 6 million during vehicles checking the other day.

Customs Intelligence Superintendent Muhammad Rauf Farooqi told Customs Today that the department, following the directions of Director General Imtiaz Ahmad Khan and Deputy Director Zainab Mehmood, checked vehicles on the roads in order to impound the vehicles being used without payment of duty/taxes.

However, a team was constituted comprising Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Anwar; Investigation Officers Muhammad Saad Sindhu and Syed Majid Raza; constables Mubashir, Boota, Sajid Raza and others to conduct raids.

During checking, the team checked several vehicles on roads and impounded a Prado worth Rs 2 million, two Toyota Vitz worth Rs 1.6 million, Toyota Surf Hilux worth Rs 1.5 million and a Toyota Corolla G worth Rs 1 million.

The team impounded all vehicles after the drivers named Shakeel, Rashid, Naeem and other could not produce any documents regarding legal import of the vehicles. The officials released the drivers after proper interrogation, while the vehicles were shifted to the compound of Customs Intelligence

Officials said that the cases have been sent to the Customs Adjudication for further legal proceedings, adding that the impounded vehicles will be set for auction if the adjudication decided case in favour of the department.
