IHC adjourns hearing of four tax references during past week

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) took up four tax references on Saturday, involving outstanding tax amount exceeding Rs 5,011,131,583 and adjourned the hearings.

The tax references were heard by IHC division and single benches. In this regard, a single bench of the IHC comprising Justice Aamer Farooq heard and adjourned a tax matter challenging tax recovery claim of Rs 4,945,136,330 and Rs 59,040,530 under the heads of sales tax and federal excise duty.

M/s Orient Petroleum (Private) Limited had file the petition, challenging a tax recovery claim of Rs 4,945,136,330 and Rs 59,040,530 allegedly under the head of sales tax and federal excise duty. Deputy Commissioner Inland Revenue, Large Taxpayers’ Unit, Islamabad had issued the notices to M/s Orient Petroleum.

Justice Aamer Farooq also heard a tax reference filed by M/s Pakistan Telecom Mobile Limited, challenging recovery notices of over Rs 6,954,723.  M/s Pakistan Telecom Mobile Limited had filed the case, challenging the show cause notice issued by Large Taxpayers’ Unit, Islamabad for recovery of Rs 6,954,723 under the head of income tax.

In the mean time, Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani and Justice Aamer Farooq heard the a sales tax reference filed by commissioner Inland Revenue, Regional Tax Office, Islamabad. This tax matter involved M/s Hub Power Company as respondent. The bench adjourned hearing of the case after counsels involved sought time from the court.

Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb heard income tax reference filed by M/s Shaigan Pharmaceutical Private Limited and another cases filed against Customs Appellate Tribunal, Islamabad. The bench also adjourned these cases to different dates.
