SIALKOT: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation impounded seven non-duty paid vehicles and confiscated other items worth Rs 18 million under anti smuggling campaign during September 2016.
Reportedly, the anti-smuggling campaign is in full swing in Gujranwala after it was initiated by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). The department impounded 7 vehicles, including one Toyota Prado, 2 Toyota Vitz, one Toyota Hilux Surf, one Suzuki Swift, one Suzuki Mehran and one Toyota Corolla Mark.
Customs Intelligence Superintendent Muhammad Rauf Farooqi told Customs Today that the worth of impounded vehicles has been estimated at Rs 15 million whereas all these non-duty paid vehicles were impounded during road checking.
He said that Investigation Officers Syed Majid Raza, Agha Nasim Haider, Mian Muhammad Yousaf and Saad Sindhu along with team members comprising constables Sajid Raza, Boota, Mubashir and others conducted raids in different areas of the regions. The superintendent also hailed the performance of the officials.
He said that the department has adopted zero-tolerance policy against smuggling, adding that focus has been put on main areas of region to curb smuggling in order to save the national exchequer.
He further informed the Customs Intelligence confiscated red chilli, tyres, cumin, clothes, toys, etc. worth Rs 5 million during the said period. He informed that the Customs Intelligence impounded the vehicles and miscellaneous items after the accused persons could not show document regarding their legal import.
He also said that Director General Imtiaz Ahmed and Deputy Collector Zainab Mehmood have appreciated the performance of Gujranwala region and promised to announce award for officers on showing the good performance soon.
